Coral Garden Update
Over February, March and April we have been doing a lot of work in our coral garden. We attached 75 corals to disks which are now growing in our nursery Installed two new frames and re-populated our pre-existing ones with over 220 fragments of opportunity. And installed a tree which now holds 50 coral fragments destined to be out-planted to our reef.
All of the corals in our garden are Corals of Opportunity (COO’s) which are corals that we found broken from the reef. This can be due to storms, animals, boats, fishing or people standing on the corals and we find alot of these on the shallower parts of our house reef as well as at surrounding reefs such as Veyvah and Vavvaru.
Our Coral Restoration Volunteers, Henry and Josephine, made a huge impact in our active coral restoration project, allowing us to bring forward plans to grow.
A huge thank you goes out to to you both for their hard work and dedication along with the constant positivity and enthusiasm they had to every task!
