June & July Megafauna Logs

Every day we record the megafauna we see, while diving, snorkelling, from a boat or from shore. Information we share with Atoll Marine Centre and Manta Trust and that is used to track abundance and numbers of each species within Lhaviyani.

Our June and July sightings include; 55 Green Sea Turtles, 10 Hawksbill Turtles, 13 Blacktip Reef Sharks, 15 Grey Reef Sharks, 2 Nurse Sharks, 5 Juvenile Nurse Sharks, 1 Lemon Shark, 1 Whale Shark, 4 Blotched Rays, 13 Cowtail Rays, 4 Porcupine Rays, 2 Whiptail Rays, 4 Manta Rays, 24 Spotted Eagle Rays, 4 Juvenile Spotted Eagle Rays, 2 Ornate Eagle Rays, 6 Spinner Dolphins, 11 Bottlenose Dolphins and 40+ Common Dolphins.

Our personal highlights were spotting the Lemon Shark during a decent for a Dive Against Debris on our house reef and two Ornate Eagle Rays together while swimming back to shore after another clean up event - showing that the ocean really does give back.
