April Megafauna Data

Every day we record the megafauna we see, while diving, snorkelling, from a boat or from shore. Information we share with Atoll Marine Centre and Manta Trust and that is used to track abundance and numbers of each species within Lhaviyani.

Our April sightings include; 89 Green Sea Turtles, 17 Hawksbills, 7 Bottlenose Dolphins, 23 Spinner Dolphins, 15 Black Tip Reef Sharks, 48 Grey Reef Sharks, 2 Juvenile Grey Reef Sharks, 1 White Tip Reef Shark, 10 Nurse Sharks, 8 Blotched Fantail Rays, 10 Cowtail Rays, 28 Whiptail Rays, 35 Spotted Eagle Rays and our personal highlights for this month; 1 Pilot Whale which was spotted near Hurawalhi, 1 Ornate Eagle Ray seen on our house reef (the second sighting in two months!) while teaching an Open Water Diver course and 1 Silver Tip Reef Shark seen in Kuredu Express!

One of our favourite things about diving is that you never know what you might see and this month definitely had some wonderful surprises!
