Introducing CoralWatch to Naifaru
This week, together with Atoll Marine Centre and Atoll Volunteers, we snorkelled our house reef and the brilliant team of staff and volunteer citizen scientists surveyed and collected data from 95 corals submit to CoralWatch.
We started off our afternoon with a briefing from Elizabeth, a PADI CoralWatch Coral Health Chart Instructor, on how to conduct the surveys before breaking into buddy teams and entering the reef to collect this valuable data.
CoralWatch is a citizen science initiative dedicated, through volunteers, to monitoring the health of coral around the world, in over 130 countries.
As part of our new Coral Restoration volunteering programme we will be training volunteers on how to collect this coral health data, monitoring our house reef and 6 of. our surrounding reefs and contributing to this worldwide data base.
Thank you to all the participants for their hard work!
