Moving our Restoration Site

Alongside our Coral Restoration Volunteers and Atoll Marine Centre staff, this month we have been working on moving our coral frames to a slightly deeper area to help prevent coral bleaching.

The Maldives is currently experiencing the 5th bleaching event in the past 9 years and this deeper sight should help to protect the coral from heat stress. The new area is also less sheltered, meaning more water flow and less sediment buildup on the frames. This does make our restoration work slightly tricker as now we have to deal with stronger currents and shorter dive times but thankfully our volunteers have been well trained to deal with the conditions!
